Log Lodge Pattern Release!

Log Lodge Pattern Release!

Are you ready for a new pattern!? I hope so, because today, one of TWO patterns scheduled for release this month is coming on line! I realized that it has been over a month since my last blog post, which I am going to choose to blame on kicking off two tests and finishing some super secret projects that I can't share for a few months. But, stay on the look out because I have a couple exciting posts on the docket!

Log Lodge is a contemporary take on the traditional log cabin quilt (told you there was log cabin fever this spring!). It stretches the pattern into a rectangle, which I've loved and wanted to explore ever since I learned to crochet granny squares. Also, instead of using normal log cabin seams, the color strips meet at 45 degree angles, which is called a mitered corner. You might have heard of these when it comes to quilt binding, but it's a commonly used technique for adding borders to quilts as well! They are a bit fiddly until you get the hang of them. I would say this is a great intermediate quilt, or perhaps a good chance for a confident, advanced beginner to try a new technique!

I realized when I planned this quilt out that I really NEVER work with purple. I don't dislike it, but I didn't have any of the 13 shades in my stash! Why purple? This design is actually my entry for this year's Pantone Color of the Year quilt challenge, which you can learn more about at Bryan House Quilts. This year's color is Ultraviolet, so I pulled pretty much every purple off my Kona color wall. It was fun to rearrange them until I had a gradient I was happy with!

I swear they actually love each other...

Now, no reason to fight over who gets the pattern- it's available today on both Etsy and Craftsy! If you love the pattern, but just wish you could see how it looks in a different color palette, I had two wonderful testers who made these drool-worthy versions (blues are popular!):
